Not Wearing Your CPAP?
If you are looking to treat your sleep apnea or if you are not wearing your CPAP, Dr. Kurt Erickson or Dr. Seth Huiras are able to determine if you may qualify for an airway-focused dental solution, without the need for CPAP or costly surgery.
Can't Tolerate CPAP?
An oral appliance fits over your teeth like an Invisalign tray while you sleep and supports your jaw in a forward position to keep your airway open. A custom-fit oral appliance can improve your sleep, restore your alertness, and revitalize your health.
If you and your doctor decide that oral appliance therapy is the best treatment option for you, your doctor will write a prescription and refer you to Dr. Kurt Erickson or Dr. Seth Huiras, who can make a custom-fit oral appliance. They will provide ongoing treatment to make sure your appliance remains comfortable and effective.

Dr. Kurt Erickson
Dr. Kurt Erickson grew up in Fairmont, Minnesota as the eldest son of a dentist and is a graduate of Fairmont High School. He completed his undergraduate education at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2010. Taking inspiration from his father, Dr. Erickson earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2014. Upon graduating dental school, Dr. Erickson furthered his professional training and completed a yearlong AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) residency program at the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium in Sitka, Alaska. During this time, he received advanced training from specialists in pediatric dentistry, endodontics, oral surgery, and prosthodontics. He has over a decade of private practice experience serving several communities in southern Minnesota.
Dr. Erickson and Dr. Seth Huiras founded Southern Minnesota Sleep Center in 2023 as they noticed a great need for sleep dentistry in the patients they served in their general dental practices. His focus at Southern Minnesota Sleep Center is on treating patients diagnosed with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea through the use of a comfortable oral sleep appliance that ensures they get the rest their body truly needs.
He is a current member of the American Dental Association, Minnesota Dental Association, and the Southern District Dental Society. Additionally, Dr. Erickson is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) and holds the AADSM Qualified Dentist designation.
Dr. Erickson and his wife reside in Owatonna, MN with their three lovely children. He is a huge sports fan and loves cheering on his favorite Minnesota teams in his free time (Skol Vikings!). Dr. Erickson welcomes new patients of all ages and looks forward to meeting you and helping you get better sleep.

Mask discomfort, air leaks, dry mouth, and difficulty sleeping are common reasons patients are unable to stay consistent with CPAP therapy. These issues often lead to interrupted sleep and inconsistent use.
A custom oral sleep appliance offers a more comfortable, quieter alternative that is easier to wear and designed to support more consistent treatment for sleep apnea and better overall sleep health.

Better Sleep Leads to Better Days
Comfortable At-Home Sleep Tests Available!
A home sleep study is used to identify obstructive sleep apnea, a sleep-related breathing disorder. It records your breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and airflow during sleep to determine whether interrupted breathing may be impacting your energy, focus, and overall health.
Unlike an overnight lab sleep study, there is no need to sleep in an unfamiliar facility, be connected to multiple wires in a clinical setting, or follow a restricted sleep routine. Get tested in the comfort of your own home!

Common Symptoms of Sleep Problems
Snoring
Snoring may signal deeper sleep issues and, if left untreated, can harm your sleep health and relationships, sometimes leading to separate sleeping arrangements.
Interrupted breathing during sleep reduces oxygen and places strain on the heart and nervous system. CPAP is not well tolerated by everyone, so we offer alternative treatment options.
Sleep Apnea
Fatigue
Daytime fatigue isn’t something you have to push through. We help determine what’s impacting your sleep and work toward restoring natural energy levels.
Insomnia
Struggling to sleep well for weeks or even years? We help uncover the causes of insomnia and support you in rebuilding healthy, restorative sleep.
Sleep disruption can affect emotional regulation, leading to irritability, anxiety, or mood swings. Poor sleep can make it harder to stay calm and balanced throughout the day.
Mood Swings
Headaches
Morning headaches can make it harder to focus, stay alert, and function at your best. This may be related to low oxygen levels or frequent nighttime awakenings.

Dr. Seth Huiras
With a strong focus on airway and sleep dentistry, Seth Huiras is dedicated to addressing the root causes of dental issues that impact overall health. Early in his career, he recognized the link between oxygen loss, teeth grinding, tongue attachments, and jaw development—insights that inspired him to approach dentistry through a broader public health lens. His work centers on assessing oral anatomy and airway health, then creating customized treatment plans that improve breathing, prevent sleep apnea, and protect long-term wellness.
Alongside airway-focused care, he brings nearly a decade of experience in implant dentistry. Using 3D digital modeling and printed surgical guides, he plans and executes implant placements with precision and predictability.
Advances in digital technology have reshaped his practice, raising standards of care and expanding treatment options to better serve patients. His background includes degrees in Chemistry and Statistics from St. Olaf College, a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Minnesota, over 500 hours of continuing education, leadership roles in the Minnesota Dental Association, and speaking engagements on dental technology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM), reflecting his dedication to ongoing education and excellence in patient care.
Outside the office, Seth stays grounded through family life with his wife, Caitlin, their three daughters, and their English Springer Spaniel. He enjoys time outdoors, seasonal traditions like hunting, yard work in the warmer months, watching sports with loved ones, and traveling with Caitlin. For him, dentistry is more than a career—it is both a passion and a vocation that connects him to people, challenges him to grow, and inspires gratitude each day.
